What is a Top Sash Latch?

Not all aluminum windows are the same. DYC aluminum thermally-broken Double Hung Windows, Series 8400, feature two sashes that raise and lower and tilt inwards for easy cleaning. In addition to our strong locks and the spiral balancers we use to lift our heavy sashes, our solid aluminum extrusion, indicated above by the arrow, further secures our top sash in place when not in use. This strong, spring-loaded “Top Sash Latch” is an added-value back-up system to prevent sash sag common in lesser double hung window designs that depend only upon meeting rail locks and spiral balancers to hold the top sash in place.
